Traditionally it seems that nurses are viewed as poor researchers and lack the ability to use current technology.  Barriers that nurses encounter when using research have been identified as,

“time constraints, limited access to the literature, lack of training in information seeking and critical appraisal skills, aprofessional ideology that emphasizes practical rather than intellectual knowledge, and a work environment that does not encourage information seeking” Mapping the literature of Nursing

Nurses assigments tend to be practical based and there is a lot of learning form peers in the clinical setting. At present the ideology of nursing may be in transition as nursing develops degree programs and the focus of nursing practice now includes the role of nurse practioners.
